Starting at the End

Saturday 4th December 2010, A. Palmer

I’m convinced we could have made it work
if only you’d have gambled,
been brave and took back your heart.
But as it stands, it was pointless to even start.

Was I what you swore I wasn’t?
I’m not even going to say the word.
I really thought we fit and looked the part.
But as it stands, it was pointless to even start.

So now, you go that way, I’ll stay and rue
that I ever timed my breathing to yours
as you lay upon me, dreaming of other arts.
Yes, as it stands, it was pointless to even start.
